Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions from families—answered with the care and clarity we aim to bring to every step of the journey.

We have extensive experience guiding long-term planning for students starting as early as Grade 8 and 9. Some families begin working with us the summer before Grade 9 to build a strong foundation for high school. At the same time, we have successfully supported students who started with us at every grade level—including some who joined mid-Grade 12. Our most accelerated case involved revamping a student’s entire Regular Decision application round starting in December. Wherever you are in the journey, we meet you there—and build forward.

No. Our priority is helping students find universities and programs where they will thrive academically, socially, and personally. While many of our students have been admitted to highly competitive schools, our true focus is on strategic planning for growth, fit, and long-term success—not just rankings.

Yes. Many families start with hourly consultation sessions to better understand their planning needs and goals. Our services are designed to be flexible: we can evolve with your family’s needs over time.

Most of our services are delivered virtually to accommodate students across time zones and locations. In-person meetings may be arranged selectively, depending on advisor availability and specific case needs.

That’s completely normal—and in fact, it’s one of the best reasons to start working with a trusted advisor early. Part of our role at Novellea is to help students explore their academic and personal interests in a structured, low-pressure way. We guide students in discovering their strengths, understanding different fields of study, and making informed choices over time—not forcing early decisions.

Absolutely—and in fact, some of the best outcomes we have seen come from strong parent involvement. At Novellea, we intentionally allocate time for family communication to ensure parents stay engaged without overshadowing the student’s independent growth. Our approach balances regular updates and structured conversations with parents, while also creating a space where students can work directly and confidently with their counselors.
